- Much of the plot of this book grows out of what happened in World War II. For older students, the ABC TV series Changi would be challenging but worthwhile viewing.
- In World War II, Australia had three enemies: Germany, Italy and Japan. Choose one of these and look at our position now in relation to these countries. Look at, for example, any one of: treaties, trade, immigration, consumer goods, effect on Australian culture.
- Germany and Japan are still remembered by older Australians as 'the enemy'. Is this true of Italy? If not, why not?`
- Everyone assumes that the graffiti is done by a young person. Why? Can graffiti be art? Make a sign of the name of your school in graffiti style.
- The design of The Network Mysteries combines text with images. What effect do the images have? Do they make the experience of reading the book different, either for the good or for the bad?
- Police interview young people in this book. Do you know your legal rights? See, for example, http://www.theshopfront.org and find out what your rights are if the police want to question you.
